2006 has been a good year for Michael Stuart, at least as far as new releases are concerned. With the arrival of his new studio disc, Back to da Barrio, which was followed closely by three collections of his work, dedicated fans will have trouble keeping up with the four additions to his discography. With two collections released by his current label, Universal Latino (he is on the roster of the new urban Latino label Machete Music) and one released by RMM, the folks who gave Stuart his start, it could be a difficult choice which to take home. Grandes Exitos from Universal Latino packs quite a punch, with 15 of Stuart's most popular tracks and five videos included on this CD/DVD package. Material that spans his entire career (excluding the recent addition of Back to da Barrio), from 1996's Cuentos de la Vecindad all the way to 2004's Sin Miedo. Stuart has always been a standout in the salsa world, and this disc is an excellent reminder. The older material stands easily beside contemporary cuts, with equally excellent writing, production, and performance; Stuart has always received star treatment from the best labels in the business. With a catalog like his, Universal Latino had a pretty easy time making him look good.
