We are sons of Yo la Tengo”. Podia ser o início e o fim do texto se não valesse a pena explorar tanta franqueza. A maior parte dos artistas prefere não assumir declaradamente as suas referências ou, pura e simplesmente, dizer que são variadas, sem as nomear.

São escolhas. Outros há ainda, que nos garantem não ser influenciados por “ninguém em especial”, assoberbando-se na vanguarda e/ou reduzindo-se na insignificância. No caso dos The Boys Age não seria preciso dizer nada embora lhes fique bem, tendo em conta o zelo e a dedicação dos seus progenitores.

É que até para escolher o guarda-roupa, precisaram de atravessar o Pacífico e fazer o coast to coast till Hoboken. Não são um trio como poderia ser expectável. Talvez não tenham encontrado ainda o baixista com mais de 90 quilos que procuram. Kaznary Mutow (composição, voz e guitarra) e Takamasa Kobayashi (bateria e back vocals), fundaram os The Boys Age em Saitama, numa tarde solarenga de Outono. Corria o ano de 2010, ainda o país vivia sem as cicatrizes da tragédia de Tohoku, na Primavera seguinte.

Do código genético dos seus pais herdaram a vertente mais pop e já não tanto a dos pedais ligados à corrente, emparelhando-se temas de formato canção com outros, instrumentais, a apontar ao céu. Depois, há o cunho do Japão: coisas que não conseguimos explicar mas que também nos tocam porque também lá estamos incluídos. Nós, os ocidentais. Nós, os portugueses.

É nesta a corda bamba em que tão bem se equilibram os japoneses, que se movimentam os The Boys Age. É uma tal fantasia que, independentemente dos estilos musicais e das formas artísticas, lhes parece estar reservada em exclusivo e para sempre.

Para amantes de Deerhunter, Galaxie 500, Pavement, Cocteau Twins, My Bloody Valentine, Sparklehorse, Neutral Milk Hotel, Velvet Underground (não somos todos?) ou Flaming Lips.

&We are sons of Yo la Tengo.& It could be the beginning and end of the text if not worth exploring so frankly. Most artists prefer not to openly take their references or simply say that are varied, without the name.

Are choices. There are others still who assure us not be influenced by &nobody in particular&, overwhelming at the forefront and / or reducing into insignificance. For The Boys Age would not need to say anything though suits them, taking into account the zeal and dedication of their parents.
