爵士乐的起源、含义:
爵士乐成形时间是19世纪末、20世纪初。公认的发祥地是美国南部路易斯安那州的一个亚热带城市―新奥尔良。
在众多流行音乐中,爵士乐是出现最早并且是在世界上影响较广的一个乐种,爵士乐实际就是美国的民间音乐。欧洲教堂音乐、美国黑人小提琴和班卓传统音乐融合非洲吟唱及美国黑人劳动号子形成了最初的"民间蓝调","拉格泰姆"和"民间蓝调"构成了早期的爵士乐。
从17-18世纪西方殖民主义者,将大批非洲黑人贩卖到美洲,成为那里白人的奴隶之后,他们被强迫劳动、受尽折磨。在田间、在劳动之余,黑奴 们怀念故乡和亲人,常常唱一种哀歌,以表达他们痛苦的心声。这种音乐也渗透在一些宗教 歌曲中。由于蓝色在美国人民中,被看作是忧郁的色彩,这种悲哀的歌曲,也就统称之为Blues(蓝色)。中国音译之为"布鲁斯"。我们常常从美国音乐作品中发现带有Blues的曲名,如《蓝色狂想曲》、《蓝色的探戈》、《蓝色的爱情》等。
爵士乐的另一个起源,是来自一种叫"拉格泰姆"的钢琴音乐。"拉格泰姆"是Ragtime这 个词的音译。词意是"参差不齐的拍子"。故又称为"散拍乐"。它也是从非洲民间音乐发 展而成。19世纪末,一个名叫司科特·乔普林(Scott Joplin,1869-1917)的黑人钢琴手,创造了一种新风格的钢琴音乐:右手高音声部演奏切分音节奏很特别的主旋律或琶音。一般 4/4拍乐曲,一、三拍为强拍,二、四拍为弱拍,而他在高音声部每一拍半、 即三个八分音符时,就出现一次强音,而左手则是规律地演奏由四分音符轻重音组成的节奏, 一、三拍为低音强拍,二、四拍为和弦、弱拍。这样左右手形成交错的节拍,使音乐带有 幽默、欢乐、活泼的情趣,由于这一创造,乔普林被人们誉为"拉格泰姆之王"。
有人说Jazz这个词,是从非洲土语Jaiza演变而来。这个词原意思是"加快击鼓";另一种说法是:早年新奥尔良有位乐手名叫Jasper,大家叫惯了,都叫他Jas,后来一传再传,就变 成了Jazz了;还有人说Jazz这个词是由Chaz这个词演变而来的。
早期的黑人爵士乐师多不识谱,演奏时只是凭着灵感,对所熟悉的曲调自由地进行变化。 所以带有很强的即兴性质。由于人数不多,三五个乐手经常在一起合作,时间久了,彼此之间也就自然地形成一种默契。
