Fusion jazz，即融合爵士。60年代末70年代初，爵士乐与摇滚乐的结合得到了音乐界的一致认可，但是他们只是简单地在摇滚乐基础上增加了爵士乐的成分。到了70年代在迈尔斯·戴维斯(Miles Davis)的领导下掀起了一阵真正的爵士融合浪潮，这便是融合爵士的诞生。Fusion 融合派爵士乐 1960''''-

在过去的二十五年间，“融合”一词显得有些过于文学化，因为在二十五年的发展中，“融合”一词已经逐渐失去了意义，人们已经很难从字面的意义，理解这种风格的含义。融合派爵士乐最初的定义是非常完美的：这是一种爵士乐的即兴演奏和摇滚乐的力量与节奏的结合。直到1967年，爵士乐和摇滚乐仍是两位相互完全分离的音乐种类，但是随着摇滚乐创造力的不断提高，以及摇滚乐音乐家音乐素养的不断提高，而且爵士乐界的一些人逐渐厌倦了硬波普爵士乐，又不愿演奏严格的前卫爵士乐，两种不同的音乐形式开始偶尔擦出火花。当进人二十世纪七十年代，融合派爵士乐逐渐成为了一种赚钱的音乐风格，同时摇滚乐在艺术性方面开始下降之后，许多被冠以融合派爵士乐之名的音乐事实上成为了一种混合型的爵士乐，其中央杂有轻松的流行音乐，节奏布鲁斯音乐以及其它音乐种类的因素。尽管诸如 Chick Corea的电声乐队等音乐家仍然在努力进取，融合派爵士乐当初的理想却仍然没能实现。
