福音音乐（Gospel music），基督教音乐的分支。其创作、演出和意义，甚至福音音乐的定义都随着文化和社会背景各异。福音音乐的创作和演出基于多种目的，包括美学愉悦，宗教或仪式典礼目的，以及作为唱片市场的一种娱乐产品。福音音乐通常以人声（经常伴以使用强有力的和声）歌唱基督教的歌词。福音音乐主要强调有节奏的器乐伴奏和即兴演唱。演唱风格以运用单音节装饰音（几个音符合为一个音节演唱）、歌词高声喊唱为特点。鼓和电吉他伴奏出亢奋的节拍和突出的节奏。
福音音乐可以追溯到17世纪早期的黑人口头歌唱传统。赞美诗和圣歌在那时是以呼唤和应答的方式重复的。多数教堂演唱依赖于徒手打拍和跺脚来作为节奏化的伴奏。多数演唱是无伴奏演唱（ cappella）。 首次在出版物使用 "福音歌曲（Gospel Song）"这一术语可能出现于1874年。原初的福音歌曲的创作和作曲者有 George F. Root, Philip Bliss, Charles H. Gabriel, William Howard Doane, 和Fanny Crosby等。接着福音音乐的出版社也出现了。20世纪20年代，广播电台的出现 极大地增加了福音音乐的听众数量。福音音乐开始作为一种独立的音乐类型出现，这一时期如黑人作曲家托马斯·A·多尔西在作曲时，把早期的福音音乐与布鲁斯和爵士乐的节拍节奏融合在一起。福音音乐传到南方白人教堂后，歌手们在乡村音乐和西部音乐的影响下发明了一种新唱法。二战后，福音音乐走进了许多大型音乐厅，精心举办的福音音乐的音乐会也开始出现。很多福音音乐歌手还同时演唱节奏布鲁斯，著名的有阿撒·富兰克林和山姆·库克。他们在节奏布鲁斯中借鉴了福音音乐的演唱风格，从而创立了新的风格灵乐。詹姆斯·克利夫兰是20世纪六七十年代最著名的福音音乐歌手。威南斯乐队是20世纪90年代最受欢迎的福音音乐乐队。
当代基督教音乐（Contemporary Christian music，简缩写CCM），又称当代福音音乐、现代基督教音乐、现代福音音乐、流行基督教音乐和 流行福音音乐，系当代流行音乐的一种，歌词重点在于抒发对于基督教信仰的情感。现今这一术语用来称呼流行、摇滚和虔敬风格（pop, rock, or praise & worship styles）。
当代基督音乐受到民谣、福音、流行和摇滚的影响。20世纪60年代基督复兴运动（the hymns, Gospel and Southern Gospel music），人们开始以区别于当时流行的圣歌、福音和南方福音等，用更加当代的方式来表达自我。70年代之后，一些摇滚歌手把基督教的信仰和他们的音乐相结合，在商业上取得了一定的成功。在90年代之后，这种音乐风格变得更加商业化。并有了自己的奖项圣鸽奖，并衍生出基督教摇滚乐，基督教说唱乐等各个分支。
