后硬核（Post-hardcore）是一个发展自硬核朋克（Hardcore punk）的音乐类型，也是广泛的朋克摇滚运动中的一个分支，就如后朋克（Post-Punk）。许多后硬核的乐团都是来自硬核朋克乐坛，或是受到硬核音乐的启发，但这些乐团更关注于表达内心深处。
随着一些来自美国中西部的乐团发行了他们的作品，这个类型逐渐形成于1980年代的中晚期。
后硬核发源自硬核朋克，硬核的特色在于节奏快速、高分贝、沉重的贝斯与DIY精神。
后朋克是影响后硬核音乐发展的其中之一，后朋克是在1970年代晚期和1980年代早期的英国出现的。在发展的过程中，许多乐团实验性的将灵魂音乐、放克音乐、爵士、放克朋克结合。值得注意的是，许多后硬核乐手，都是从硬核音乐起家，他们在拥有熟练的技巧后，开始为他们所创作的音乐拓展新的声音。
