一、无伴奏大提琴组曲：

巴赫的独奏大提琴组曲大约作于1717年的克滕。巴赫的这一套组曲采取标准的古典组曲形式，按照当时流行的法国风格组曲所组成。当时克滕宫廷中有两位古大提琴演奏家阿贝尔与李尼希克，巴赫以这两位演奏家作为对象作成这套组曲，这套组曲谱系巴赫的第二位妻子安娜•玛格达琳娜抄下来，原谱没有速度标记。现在这套组曲的速度标记有多种历代著名大提琴演奏家所标标志，公认的版本是19世纪著名大提琴家H.贝尔卡所标，卡萨尔斯所标版本也极为重要。

这些组曲目前无法确定其具体的创作年代，但大多数学者都认为，根据对组曲的各种因素和特点的分析，它们应该在于1720年（巴赫无伴奏小提琴奏鸣曲与组曲手稿上的完成年份）之前完成。很长一段时间，这些作品完全不受重视。除了偶尔以练习曲的身份出现外，根本无缘在音乐厅里演奏。在十九世纪，甚至有很多著名作曲家尝试为它们加上钢琴伴奏。西班牙大提琴家卡萨尔斯是历史上对于这些组曲的推广有着里程碑式的贡献和影响的人。他于二十世纪三十年代录制的第一套全部组曲录音时到今日，仍旧被专业音乐家和业余爱好者奉为楷模。

“1887年的一天，当时年龄只有13岁的卡萨尔斯与父亲去逛巴塞罗纳港湾旁的一个乐谱店，在一个散发着刺鼻霉味的角落里发现了这些珍贵的音乐文献，才使得它又重见天日，并闪烁出耀眼的光芒。由于年代久远，这些乐谱的纸张早已经变成了黄色，在厚厚的尘封下面，卡萨尔斯看见了一行令他心情无比激动的字样：‘《6首大提琴无伴奏组曲》，约翰·塞巴斯蒂安·巴赫作曲’。卡萨尔斯兴奋极了，险些晕了过去，他如获至宝，立刻将乐谱买下带回家仔细研读。巴赫的这些乐曲为他开启了一个崭新的境界。从此以后，卡萨尔斯每天都怀着无比崇敬的心情用大量的时间对乐谱进行分析、研究与练习。直到过了12年之后，也就是在卡萨尔斯25岁的那一年，他才有勇气第一次登上音乐会舞台演奏了这套作品中的一首组曲。也许，对某些人来说，演奏巴赫的作品觉得似乎是件很简单的事情，但对于卡萨尔斯而言，却并非那么容易。他常说：‘如果你真正接触到了巴赫音乐的核心时，才会发现要想完美地表现出巴赫作品的内涵是需要多么广博的知识和精深的研究。’为此，巴赫的音乐令卡萨尔斯终身学习不辍。”

在这些组曲中，一把大提琴不仅要演奏高音声部的音乐旋律，而且同时还要完成自身为这些旋律所提供的有机的低音伴奏，因此就大大地拓宽了大提琴丰富无比的表现力，所以这六首大提琴组曲对于大提琴演奏艺术的发展可以说是一部划时代的音乐文献。

二、古大提琴奏鸣曲：

巴赫为古大提琴和大键琴一共创作了3首奏鸣曲（BWV1027—1029），这3首奏鸣曲为当时克滕宫廷的古大提琴演奏家阿贝尔所作，大约作于克腾时期。当时的古大提琴是六弦琴，用现在的大提琴来演奏技巧上有一定难度。（以上文字整合自网络）
