相比在60年代高举叛逆旗帜的朋克，诞生在70年代的后朋克更具实验性与独特美学，在反抗主流之余，积极探索音乐更丰富的可能;试图抛开任何主流结构，纯粹追随创作者的内心世界，以具实验性质的率性，为乐坛带来别开生面而饱含深度的演出。长时间以来，后朋克形式在独立摇滚界深受追捧，通过剑走偏锋的独门技法，带来令乐迷啧啧称奇的旋律，例如透过复杂而单调的电吉他演奏，配合刻意加燥而带来浓厚噪音的混声，粗犷得近乎简陋、近乎搞怪的编曲混音等等，拓宽了摇滚乐的边界。
