黑金属，音乐流派，以邪恶、异教崇拜以及撒旦思想为其主要诉求，通常在歌词含有反基督、反宗教的倾向即被归为黑金属主唱运用尖叫式的黑腔,强烈失真的吉他,猛烈却阴沉的双大鼓,快速行进的节奏和旋律,除了传统重金属固定乐器之外，经常会使用其他乐器如钢琴、小提琴，或歌剧的女高音，在歌曲中营造出一股诡异又吓人的恐怖气氛，以及带来冷冽,黑暗,带有绝望的感受。

“死亡金属”是一种极端得无法让人严肃对待的音乐。它不仅用噪音、先锋古典音乐、爵士乐拼命地刮你已起茧的鼓膜，还用放大器把它们放大，用一种绞肉机般的力量怒吼出来。

旋律黑金属 这是一种新兴的黑金属风格，和旋律死亡金属的意思一样，就是用大量好听的快速的RIFF和大段SOLO让极端的音乐变得旋律动听，并在SOLO时加入唱腔，代表乐队是瑞典的Vintersorg、Witchered Beauty等

旋律死亡金属(Melodic Death Metal) 被认为是一种从死亡金属分支出来的乐风。此类音乐含大量有旋律吉它复式和单独演奏，有时是木吉他，亦有时以清晰的唱法取代惯性用的传统低沈咆哮声线(俗称“死腔”)。音乐结构较死亡金属明显,主旋律较强,比死亡金属少用便拍与变速等编曲技巧,而且有时也

会出现吉他独奏(Solo),音乐概念也用不同的主题(歌词)演绎出来。
