by Ron WynnThis group, formed in 1959, was co-led by Benny Golson and Art Farmer, with McCoy Tyner on piano. It survived until 1962 in its first incarnation, then resurfaced in 1985 with Farmer and Golson once again at the helm. The group was -- and remains -- famous for nicely structured, precise, yet soulful pieces and a swinging style. Both Golson and Farmer know how to play without excess, yet retain energy and impact.
