Jan Flu is the moniker for P. Necobayashi, a former member of the Japanese pop-folk band The OXs. Deviating from the folk-oriented tracks, Jan Flu’s influences include Captured Tracks-centric bands like DIIV, Beach Fossils, and Widowspeak.
“Invisible Beach, And The Skying” is one of the two new tracks Necobayashi has written and recorded under the solo project. Emulating the dream pop bands to come out of Brooklyn, Necobayashi ‘s terse interlocking guitars flutter like raindrops forming ripples in a pond. Trickling instrumentation is coupled with Necobayashi’s dampened vocals, blurry on whether the track is sung in English or Japanese. The familiar usage of repetition and elasticity are what makes this track catchy, yet it still feels fresh even after a handful of listens.
