by Robert KaupsBased in Kingston, Ontario, Luther Wright and the Wrongs began as a side project for Weeping Tile lead guitarist Luther Wright. Where Weeping Tile was primarily an alternative rock band featuring the talents of singer/songwriter Sarah Harmer, Luther Wright and the Wrongs bill their sound as "original old-tyme hurtin' country music." The Wrongs core lineup consists of Luther Wright on vocals and acoustic guitar, Dan Curtis on electric guitar, banjo, and vocals, Cam Giroux on drums and vocals, and Sean Kelly on bass and vocals. The band released their debut CD, Hurtin' for Certain, in 1997. Roger's Waltz, recorded live on a back porch and featuring guests Jason Mercer (bassist for Ani Difranco), Lewis Melville, and Sarah Harmer, followed in 1999. In March of 2001, Luther Wright and the Wrongs released Rebuild the Wal, their most ambitious project to date -- a country/bluegrass update of Pink Floyd's The Wall. Rebuild The Wall became a surprise success, selling well in Canada and the United States, and earned Wright a distribution deal with Virgin Records for his next set of original material, 2003's Guitar Pickin' Martyrs.
