Adversary are a melodic death metal act whose songs are focused on emphasizing melody, emotion and song writing while remaining accessible and sincere.
With initial writing sessions beginning in the fall of 2011, Adversary was conceived as little more than a recreational, musical collaboration between long-time friends and band mates, Matt Gary and Derek Dodd. Having been founding guitarists and collaborators in previous bands, Ashes of Faith, Autumn Aria and Revenant, the two had spent years cultivating their own particular brand of "melodic death metal". This new project would be a positive and enlightening step in furthering their craft. Drawing inspiration from countless sources, the two set to the task of writing a full length album. The album's only intention being to bring to listeners a fresh take on metal by emphasizing melody, emotion and song writing while remaining accessible and sincere. After bringing friend and former band mate, Drew Kiker, into the fold to help with lyrical and vocal duties, all the pieces were in place. Over the next two years they wrote, performed and tracked the songs, handling the engineering, mixing and mastering themselves. After three years of hard work and dedication, Adversary are now poised to release their debut entitled "Ruination". With the recent addition of Steven Godbey (bass) and Kenneth Galloway (drums), Adversary hope to soon bring the songs from the album to audiences in a live setting.
