by Marisa BrownNamed after a Nintendo controller, the Advantage offered their own brand of specialized rock, playing covers of their favorite NES songs. The idea for the Advantage began in 1999 at a talent show in Nevada City, CA, when drummer Spencer Seim saw a two-person band perform video game songs. He joined the group immediately, and after the two founding members moved to Milwaukee, Seim added high-school friends and Generic bandmates Carson McWhirter, Ben Milner, and Nick Rogers on bass and guitars, respectively. Signed to Kill Rock Stars affiliate 5 Rue Christine, in 2004 the Advantage released their debut self-titled album, and two years later, after replacing Rogers with guitarist Robby Moncrieff, their second record, Elf Titled, came out.
