by Jason BirchmeierThe trance duo of Rowan Blades and Simon Noble comprise Breeder, one of the first production teams to perfect the epic-feeling style of monster dancefloor anthems, championed, most notably, by Sasha and Digweed in the late 90s. Breeders first two productions, The Chain and Twilo Thunder, functioned best as peak-hour trance anthems favoring a dark, ethereal vibe that takes several minutes to build, rather than the blatant buildups, breakdowns, and synth riffs of progressive trance. Released in 1997, these two tracks in particular were Sasha and Digweed favorites at their monthly Twilo residency and also both appeared on Sashas Global Underground: San Francisco, further establishing Breeder as a hot production team. Soon Blades and Noble reaped heavily from these two tracks success, being offered a number of remix projects from notable producers such as Orbital and Tilt. In 2000, another Breeder track invaded trance clubs around the world; titled Tyrantanic, this anthem was once again championed — in both its original form and as a remix — by Sasha and Digweed on both their Northern Exposure: Expeditions and Communicate mixes, as well as by Dave Seaman on his high-profile Global Underground: Cape Town mix. In addition to his work in Breeder, Blades runs the Rhythm Syndicate label and also is a member of another popular late 90s trance production duo, Pariah.
