by Sean CooperDetroit duo Le Car make quirky, lo-fi listening techno reminiscent of Kraftwerk and Gary Numan, as well as more recent upgrade artists such as Elecktroids, Dopplereffekt, and Ectomorph. Consisting of Adam Miller and Ian Clark, most of Le Cars material to date (including the Autofuel and Autograph EPs) has appeared on Millers Ersatz Audio and Monoplaza imprints, established by Miller and partner/producer Robert Saltz in 1995 with the idea to pair dancefloor tracks with more experimental B-sides. Although EAs first few releases stuck to that program, more recent singles have shifted almost exclusively toward left field. Le Car were featured on the Electro Juice and Five compilations released by Austrian electronica label Sabotage alongside remarkably similar-sounding artists such as Patrick Pulsinger, Def Con, and the Private Lightning Six. In addition to the Le Car singles, Ersatz Audio has released tracks by Miller and Clark solo projects (Artificial Material and Lesseninglesson, respectively), as well as the 1996 compilation EP Omniolio and the major retrospective Auto-Biography.
