by John BushMax Brennans main side gig while away from Fretless AZM, Universal Being is a collaboration with drummer Rupert Brown. In 1995, the pair began recording for Holistic Records (the same label that released Fretless AZM material) with the Sphinx EP. Two full-lengths, Holistic Rhythms and Jupiter, appeared the following year. The retrospective Archives was released in 1997, after which Brennan continued to focus on Fretless AZM with three albums released in the next year. Brown has recorded on his own as well, under the alias Hubble, returning to the Universal Being guise for 1999s Elephant Being.
