One-half of the British jazzy drumnbass duo Underwolves, Professor Stretch was raised on classical music and played piano as a child, but drifted towards electronic music as a teenager. After working with Chad Jackson for several years, Stretch issued his first single, Dub War, a collaboration with DJ Pulse. Beginning in 1994, he did production and engineering work for the Metamorphosis label; his partnership with DJ Pulse became a full-time endeavor in 1995, and the two released material on Moving Shadow and Pulses own Creative Wax. In 1996, Stretch formed Underwolves with Ned Kelly; the two began releasing singles shortly thereafter, with Stretch continuing to work with DJ Pulse on remixes for a number of artists. Remix work and Underwolves single releases continued through 1998, when Stretch issued his first solo album, Drums of Defiance, a collection of remixed African Head Charge tracks.
