艺人介绍

by Steve HueyPreservation Hall has long been New Orleans premier home for traditional Dixieland jazz, maintaining its own high-caliber house band and putting on numerous special events. In July 1962, Atlantic Records co-founder Nesuhi Ertegun — a longtime fan of classic-style jazz — traveled to New Orleans for a special week of concerts ing the cream of the citys current Dixieland players; the results were recorded and released over a series of four separate LPs dubbed Jazz at Preservation Hall. The first featured the Eureka Brass Band; the second was split between groups led by trombonist Jim Robinson and the husband-and-wife team of pianist Billie Pierce and trumpeter De De Pierce; the third was split between drummer Paul Barbarin and trumpeter Punch Miller; and the fourth showcased clarinetist George Lewis. The energetic, infectious results helped prove that New Orleans was still a vital force in the music that was such an enormous part of the citys heritage. In 1998, Mosaic issued a limited-edition box called The Atlantic New Orleans Jazz Sessions, which featured the complete contents of all four LPs, plus additional recordings by Barbarin and the Young Tuxedo Brass Band.
