艺人介绍

by Scott YanowA fine trumpeter who barely recorded, Bobby Guyer spent most of his life living and gigging in the Midwest. After playing in various local swing bands, Guyer (whose main idol was Bunny Berigan) spent a period with Bobby Byrnes Orchestra (1939-43), was with Benny Goodman during much of 1943 (which unfortunately went uned due to the Musicians Union recording strike) and then had stints with Woody Herman (1944), Tommy Dorsey and Hal McIntyre (with whom he did record). After working with the Dorsey Brothers Band in the early 1950s, Guyer returned to Cincinnati, doing studio work and often gigging in Northern Kentucky. Bobby Guyer died in 1988 of cancer but fortunately led a record date (his only one as a leader) in 1985 for Jazzology that finds him in fine form, playing dixieland and swing standards.
