乐队在意大利的Milan成立，在典型的金属旋律里，主唱们的音色产生了一种微妙而奇特的变化，创造了男女声色之间的完美和谐。1996年在乐队还没有用Lacuna Coil作为乐队名，而是叫做Ethereal的时候，他们将创作的两首demo小样寄给了一些欧洲的唱片公司，最终乐队选择与 Century Media签约合作，并更名为Lacuna Coil。
在Century Media的支持下，Lacuna Coil开始创作发展自己的音乐，1997年，在Hagen的Woodhouse，乐队开始录制歌曲，当时的制作人是Waldemar Sorychta，Andreas Ferro和Cristina Scabbia分别是男女主唱并且共同担任词曲的创作工作，还有吉他手Raffaele Zagaria和Claudio Leo；贝司手Marco Zelati和鼓手 Leonardo Forti。但是乐队很快有了变动，在支持Moonspell的巡回演出中，吉他手和鼓手离开了乐队，幸亏这时鼓手Markus（来自 Kreator）和吉他手Anders（来自Tiamat）暂时填补了乐队的空缺，演出才得以完成。下一年的一月，乐队终于找到了新的乐队成员，吉他手 Cristiano Migliore（前Thy Nature）和鼓手Cristiano Mozzati（前Time Machine）加入了乐队， Lacuna Coil就此开始演绎他们新的历史。
Lacuna Coil is an Italian gothic metal band formed in 1994.[4][5] Formerly known as Sleep of Right and Ethereal, the band was inspired by the combination of gothic imagery and music, and the members have been known, musically, for composing midtempo songs consisting of guitar lines overlaid with prominent keyboard work, and contrasting dual female/male vocal harmonies to help create a melodic detached sound, heavily emphasized on their 2002 breakthrough album Comalies. Much of the band's recent material, however, sees a heavier and more down-tuned style, featuring a more distinct bass line and a higher mixing of the guitars within the songs.
The band's 2006 release, Karmacode peaked at number 28 on the Billboard 200. They have played among the world's biggest heavy metal festivals on the main stage including Ozzfest, Bloodstock Open Air, Wacken Open Air, and played with Megadeth on their Gigantour tour in November 2007.
