by John BushRobert Geiger began recording in 1989 by setting a couple of his brothers poems to a gothic-rock soundtrack. Three years later he first played live as Bytet, as a one-man techno- and industrial-based band in coffee houses and warehouses around Anchorage, AK. A six-track demo tape later that year — plus a track on the Alaska Alternative compilation — helped cement Geigers local reputation. For Bytets 1993 debut album, First Bite, he recruited percussionist Kris Rosentrater, who stayed on for live shows during the next two years. The Eye Catcher and Blood & Computers II The Return of the Cyberpunks followed. Keyboardist Mike Miller replaced Rosentrater in 1995, and Bytet released Elektro-Industrial Sounds of the Northwest and Bytet Music.
