琉森节日弦乐团于1956年由沃尔夫冈·施奈德汉和鲁道夫·鲍姆加特纳携手创建。高质量的演出、饱满的热情、完美无瑕的“黄金音质”以及乐团所拥有的名琴，再加上乐团一直秉承的悠久传统，这一切都使该乐团与众不同、别具一格。这支室内乐劲旅常年在欧洲的各个音乐中心演出，并在全世界举行众多的巡演。琉森节日弦乐团的身影还频繁地出现在世界各地众多重量级音乐节上，比如布拉格、艾森斯塔特、路德维希堡及莱茵高等。
半个多世纪以来，琉森节日弦乐团一直被视作世界上最好的室内乐团之一，一直矢志创新，使早期音乐和新音乐交相辉映。乐团的保留曲目十分广泛，从适合弦乐团演奏的作品到适合大室内乐团演奏的作品，从巴洛克音乐到当代音乐，可谓应有尽有。在琉森节日弦乐团建团五十余载的历程中，琉森节日弦乐团曾为超过100部作品举行了首演，创作这些作品的作曲家声名显赫，包括弗兰克·马丁、博胡斯拉夫·马尔蒂努、尚多尔·韦雷斯、伊恩内斯·克赛纳基斯、克里斯托夫·彭德雷茨基、赫伯特·维利、米尔科·凯勒门、彼得·吕齐卡，以及贝亚特·富雷尔等。这些作品中的大多数都是为琉森节日弦乐团及其艺术总监委约创作的。乐团还与马克西姆·文格罗夫、扎比内·迈尔、赖因霍尔德·弗里德里希、詹姆斯·高尔韦、科利亚·布拉赫尔、莱昂尼达斯·卡瓦科斯、米沙·迈斯基、露特·齐萨克，马丁·史岱费尔德等独奏家合作过。乐团与著名青年钢琴演奏家马丁·史岱费尔德演奏、为索尼所录制的巴赫的钢琴协奏曲集曾赢得了2007年度“回声”古典音乐大奖（ECHO Klassik）的“年度最佳音乐会录音奖”。此外，乐团还为索尼古典（Sony Classical）和厄姆斯古典（Oehms Classics）唱片公司录制过唱片。

Established in 1956 by Wolfgang Schneiderhan and Rudolf Baumgartner, Festival Strings Lucerne is regarded to be one of the world’s leading chamber orchestras since decades. Highest quality, enthusiasm, the unmistakable and “golden sound” (Washington Post, 2003), also thanks to the several master instruments owned by the orchestra, as well as the long-standing tradition sharpen the distinctive profile of Festival Strings Lucerne. The renowned chamber orchestra regularly performs in the music centers of Europe and tours extensively throughout the world: 2002 in South Africa, 2003, 2006 and 2008 in Turkey as well as in the North America, 2000, 2004 and 2007 in South America. Festival Strings Lucerne appears at such prominent festivals as those of Prague, Eisenstadt, Ludwigsburg and Rheingau. At home, the orchestra can be heard annually at the Lucerne Festival as well as its own concert series (“Konzert Reihe Luzern”).
Festival Strings Lucerne strives for a creative dialogue between early and new music. Its broad repertoire reaches from works for string ensemble to extended chamber orchestra and from Baroque to contemporary music. During the more than 50 years of Festival Strings Lucerne’s existence, more than 100 works of such major composers as Frank Martin, Bohuslav Martinu, Sándor Veress, Iannis Xenakis, Krzysztof Penderecki, Herbert Willi, Milko Kelemen, Peter Ruzicka and Beat Furrer have been premiered by the orchestra; most of them commissioned for Festival Strings Lucerne and its artistic directors.
Festival Strings Lucerne works with most celebrated soloists as Maxim Vengerov, Sabine Meyer, Reinhold Friedrich, James Galway, Kolja Blacher, Leonidas Kavakos, Mischa Maisky, Ruth Ziesak, Martin Stadtfeld, Bernd Glemser and Alexander Lonquich. The orchestra records for Sony Classical and OehmsClassics. The Sony recording of Bach piano concertos with pianist Martin Stadtfeld has achieved the ECHO Klassik 2007 award for the best concert recording of the year. Festival Strings Lucerne’s CD productions have confirmed their outstanding reputation as a world-class ensemble with compelling programming.
