Winter of Sin was formed in early 1998 by R, C and D. About one year later the band released its first demo ’Hailstorm’. Wokkel and G had at that time already joined the band, as did Matthijs on drums. Hailstorm contained highly melodic black metal songs, combined with some more doomy influences. In 2001, the band recorded its second demo ’Obscura’. The production of Obscura was far better than the previous album. At the time Obscura was recorded, the band was experimenting a bit with its musical style. As a result, Obscura contained both fast melodic black metal songs as some typical doom songs. Obscura received highly positive reviews, and was elected demo of the month in the German Metal Hammer. Shortly after, Matthijs decided to leave the band, mostly due to musical differences, and M joined the band on drums. M appeared to fit very well within the band, especially as the musical direction of Winter of Sin was from then on getting faster and more complex. In 2006 CCP records released the full length album ’Woest’, and signed Winter of Sin for two additional albums. Woest has received mostly positive reviews in the various metalzines. The songs on Woest are clearly more mature than the songs on the previous releases. Moreover, Woest is much blacker and faster than the previous releases. In 2007, vocalist Wokkel and WoS decided to split ways, mainly because of time constraints on Wokkel’s behalf and some differences in attitude. Shortly after, J joined the band on vocals. He will also do the vocals on the forthcoming album, to be recorded September 2007 at the Soundlodge Studio. This new album will be faster, more complex and more sophisticated than Woest.
