Annwn is: "musically stimulating" (Rock 'n' Reel); "downright inventive" (Dirty Linen); "gonzo Celtic rock" (us) ... what you get when you take six dynamite musicians from all over the musical spectrum and turn them loose on Celtic music: blistering rock, some alternative, a touch of jazz, a little bit funky, and a whole lot over-the-top gonzo.

Annwn is: known to a musical underground ranging from folkies to freaks to Goths literally worldwide (USA, Ireland, Australia, to name a few); the band that played at Jerry Garcia's wedding reception; one of the few bands you'll hear on the radio in Anarctica.

Annwn (pronounced "AH-noon") is: a unique Bay Area take on Celtic rock: more jazzy than Ashley MacIsaac, more funky than Jethro Tull, Steeleye Span, or Fairport Convention, but firmly rooted in fire-and-fury, balls-out rock. It started in 1990 with a chance meeting at a party in the Berkeley hills, and evolved gradually over time from a folk trio into a Celtic folk-rock band, and finally -- thanks to the Internet -- into its present form, acquiring musicians from several respected Bay Area bands. Along the way the band issued nine recordings, and gathered an ever-growing collection of rabid fans from Santa Cruz to Santa Rosa to Sacramento ... and in some unexpected places like Washington and Tennessee.

Annwn is ... well, gone. Mostly. Sort of. But in its wake, it left behind something called Brazen Hussey, a 4-piece band that plays most of Annwn's repertoire in more of a stripped-down version. La Hussey doesn't play so very often, but when she does, you can tell who those people are because really, nobody but Annwn ever quite sounded like that.
