by Jason LymangroverDallas-based Shock of Pleasure were originally conceived by ex-Stranger Than Fiction singer/songwriter Robert Romano in 2004, just before he was introduced to singer/leggy blonde model Kelley Christian. With mutual goals of creating a downtempo electronic-based recording project similar to Portishead and Thievery Corporation, the two recruited producer David Castell, who started developing ambient sounds and beats over song ideas that Romano formulated on an acoustic guitar. With Romano handling most of the composition duties and Castell adding the sonic sprinkles, drummer Brent Irish and bassist Josh Curry were brought into the fold to record during off-hours in Castell's studio for the next two years, ultimately crafting It's About Time. In 2007, the record was self-released, to be released again on September 16th of the following year by EMG with two additional covers: the Carpenters' "Superstar" and Dennis Yost's "Spooky."
