by Jason AnkenyIdiosyncratic rap-metal outfit Hot Sauce Johnson formed in Hollywood in 1997 when guitarist Rob Asuncion, bassist Jason DeCosta, and drummer Possum Hill placed an advertisement seeking a vocalist; after months of fielding applicants, the trio finally selected frontman Sun Sannes, and with the subsequent additions of trumpeter Ireesh Lal and DJ None, the groups stated goal of fusing hip-hop, hard-rock, and rootsy twang — a sound they dubbed jug hop — began to jell. Upon signing to Outpost, Hot Sauce Johnson issued their debut LP Truck Stop Jug Hop in mid-1999.
