Ved buens ende乐队成立于1994年，由挪威奥斯陆的三个年轻人一同打造。在乐队的主页上，赫然写着Avant-garde/Post-Black Metal这样的乐队风格。至于post-black metal，我们自然清楚地很，也听过不少pbm风格的乐队，可能我们脑袋中首先蹦出来的是那些捎带前卫/试验色彩的乐队后期作品，尤其是挪威的乐队。比如现在的mayhem，D.H.G等等（ved buens ende本身就是挪威的乐队，自然要横向的作比较，但如今pbm大行其道，很多来自瑞典，法国，还有欧洲其他国家甚至日本的pbm乐队着实让人眼前一亮）。但无疑，这些乐队在早期的作品中还是很坚定不移的走着黑金属传统的模式。只不过在后期玩的更加前卫更加适合“学究们”来听。有些乐队玩的不是很讨好，颇有些故弄玄虚的嫌疑，他们的作品让人生呕，很多老歌迷都纷纷离开，更有一再炒冷饭，或者为了商业上的成功而摒弃原有创作模式的垃圾队。Pbm在如今已经有了很大范围内的成就，包括那些成熟的乐队以及范围相对还算大的簇拥歌迷。而Ved buens ende本身根植于前卫风格，音乐中实验色彩浓厚是Ved buens ende标志性的音乐特质，并且借用黑金属的技巧以及氛围创造了一种独特的风格。（Avant-garde是一种什么样的音乐？暂且定位为前卫先锋派，听过Ved buens ende以及其他试验派的黑金属，比如上文提到的D.H.G，Fleurety以及在Ved buens ende解散之后借尸还魂的乐队virus你便会知道）看到乐队成立的时间，我们不难发现那正是黑金属正根红苗正的那个年代，而在那一波黑金浪场中挪威的乐队始终会带给我们惊喜，各种风格的黑金属乐队也一一涌现，风格上的多元化以及乐手之间合作的频繁，乐队成员之间的复杂更迭的关系（挪威是个小国，小国必定有它的劣势）使很多乐手通常都是来自相同的乐队，有着多样化的分支，并且做着不同的音乐。Ved buens ende就是这样。且看他们乐队的三位成员，Yusaf ``Vicotnik`` Parvez（主唱/吉他手）是dodheimsgard的吉他手 (前文提到的d.h.g,挪威试验派黑金属的代表乐队，电子，工业甚至噪音等试验现代音色在音乐创作中起到很大作用，但乐队的第一张专辑确是不折不扣地原始黑金属，之后便逆流而上玩起了实验派。这个乐队在去年推出了新专辑，反响不一，个人不是很喜欢)以及乐队另一名重要人物（最重要的人物）Carl-Michael ``Czral`` ``Aggressor`` Eide（吉他，鼓，唱）也参与过d.h.g(那是在解散Ved buens ende之后的事了，但通常认为Carl-Michael在Ved buens ende的时期最具代表性，之后会刊登有关他的一个专访）并且参与的其他乐队（Aura Noir，Satyricon, Ulver等等，之前他曾是群狼的吉他手，94年组建Ved buens ende，并且在satyricon乐队中担任过鼓手一职，可以说是一名全才乐手，同样也是Ved buens ende绝对的灵魂人物，现在是Cadaver Inc乐队的鼓手，并且现任于Black/Thrash Metal乐队Aura Noir）都是挪威响当当的黑金大牌，Ved buens ende只不过是他的分支计划罢了（我认为是最为成功的side project）。而另外一名鼓手Einar也是一名挪威金属圈子中的著名人物，属于老牌乐手中的典范，参与过90年代初挪威著名死亡厄运乐队Beyond Dawn以及厄运乐队Lamented Souls，他为乐队带来了更多的是他更加试验的音乐元素（仅仅在小样中鼓的部分有所体现），可惜之参与过乐队第一张demo的录制。在Ved buens ende解散之后，他又参与延伸乐队virus,值得一提的是virus的成员全部来自Ved buens ende，乐队的贝司手Petter Berntsen也在Ved buens ende中帮过忙，乐队风格定义为Avant-garde rock / metal，这要比Ved buens ende更要试验，至于这种音乐类型可以笼统地划在Avant-garde风格里边。

Ved buens ende乐队就这样在1994年在奥斯陆组建了，当年便在Ancient Lore Creations旗下发行了乐队的第一部作品Those who Caress the Pale（Demo, Ancient Lore Creations，demo收录了5首乐队早期的作品，时长30分钟，1997年这部作品被ALC以cd的格式再版发行，并额外附赠一首试验作品InsectsPart I ）这张稍显稚嫩的专辑倒是为Ved buens ende之后的成功铺平了道路，算是乐队的抛砖引玉的作品。这张demo更是早早的确立了Ved buens ende的音乐风格，可惜在当时没有被引起足够的重视，个人认为这还是一部可听性极强的小样作品，里面有着Ved buens ende音乐中所包含的一切元素，并且比下一部全场专辑更加黑金属一些，本人吐血推荐，很有特色的一张小样作品。

专辑Written in Waters发表之后的第二年，Ved buens ende乐队便解散，之后在去年4月重组，2005年，乐队吉他手Carl-Michael 意外受伤（他从四层坠落.....），痊愈之后重组了Ved buens ende，并发行了一张排练小样。但很可惜乐队在今年再度解散.....这纷纷和和的经历同样预示着Ved buens ende很可能给世人的印象仅停留于Written in Waters时期的辉煌（有些夸张，这张专辑至今还仍处于地下....）乐队至今对重组没有一个明确的答复。而Written in Waters似乎也成为了乐队唯一的祭奠。

One of the many bands involving multi-instrumentalist Carl-Michael Elde, Norway's Ved Buens Ende (whose name roughly translates to "beyond the bow" or "beyond the rainbow") were an experimental black metal band whose sound remains heavily distinct and unusual years after their last recording. Their style blended aspects of so-called post-rock (especially in terms of the guitar playing) together with eerie crooning vocals and jazz-influenced drumming and bass playing, resulting in a sound that was as much subdued and mysterious as it was aggressive or forceful. Along with drummer/lead vocalist Elde -- who has also gone by the name Czral and played in the groups Dodheimsgard, Aura Noir, Cadaver Inc., and Virus, among others -- the group's lineup included guitarist Vicotnik (aka Aggressor and Mr. Fixit and, at one time or another, also a member of Dodheimsgard and Aura Noir) as well as bassist Skoll (aka Hugh Stephen James Mingay, also of Ulver and Arcturus). Following a demo, entitled Those Who Caress the Pale, Ved Buens Ende signed to the British Misanthropy label, on which they released their first (and only) full-length album, Written in Waters, in 1995. Those Who Caress the Pale was later released in 1997 with a couple of bonus tracks added on. However, despite rumors circulating in the late '90s that the group would get back together to record another album, nothing ever materialized (perhaps because the musicians were so busy with their other projects). By the early 2000s, Elde had announced the formation of a new band, Virus, which he said would mark a continuation of his work with Ved Buens Ende.
