by Tom DemalonPhantom, Rocker & Slick was a short-lived project that joined two former Stray Cats with longtime hired-gun guitarist Earl Slick. With their career in decline and personal tension on the rise, Brian Setzer chose to disband the Stray Cats in late 1984. Bass player Lee Rocker and drummer Slim Jim Phantom united with guitarist Earl Slick, who had played with David Bowie and Silver Condor as well as leading his own band. Blending the rockabilly stylings of the Stray Cats and adding a bit of glam rock muscle courtesy of Slick, the trio released a self-titled debut in late 1985. Despite mixed reviews among critics, the album remained on the U.S. charts for almost six months and Phantom, Rocker & Slick managed to make a slight impact at rock radio, where the bruising track "Men Without Shame" went Top Ten. The release of Cover Girl a year later would elicit little interest and Phantom, Rocker & Slick parted ways; Phantom and Rocker to participate in several Stray Cats reunions, and Slick to do session work.
