The Autumn Project started out in 1999 as a solo endeavor of Des Moines, IA, resident Mike Gustafson (drums/keys/textures), with brothers Jess Huffman (guitar) and John Huffman (bass) added to the ranks in 2001, and a debut effort entitled Fable emerging through Zu Records another two years later. A second album, La Luna de Negra, followed in 2004 and, like its predecessor, drew comparisons to groups like Godspeed You Black Emperor!, Mogwai, and Isis, with its trance-like metal-gaze epics. The trio moved to Deep Send Records for the release of its third opus, A Burning Light, in 2006.
