b. Switzerland. An adventurous and intense saxophonist, Rissi’s playing is bound up with avant garde musical thought. He took an interest in the music of Albert Ayler and in 1977 published a discography of the saxophonist’s recordings. Rissi has often sought out like-minded experimental musicians and has worked and recorded with Q4 and the Q4 Orchestra. The musicians involved, who form various sized groups from quartet to big band, include Peter Schmid (saxophone), Werner Broger (bass), Dani Schaffner (drums), Hans Anliker (trombone), Guerino Mazzola (piano), and Heinz Geisser (percussion). With the latter two, Rissi has also played and recorded in a trio. Rissi is equally adept on soprano, alto and tenor saxophones and bass clarinet.
