by AMGWhiskey Before Breakfast was born in 1994 when Dave Marlatt and Jeff Mon Sarnacki exchanged their brass horns for a fiddle and guitar. Previous to forming Whiskey, Dave and Jeff were playing trombone and trumpet respectively in the bands Tom Collins & the Coctail Shakers and the Large Hungarians. When not working with Whiskey, Jeff still plays trombone in the African dance fusion band Yoroka. Tim McCauley joined the band in 1997 to give Whiskey a healthy shot of block-rockin' bodhran beats, replacing former bodhranai Tad Coyne. Tim, who has since left the band, had also brought his penchant for singing in Irish, in the sean nos or "old style" tradition. Cara Lieurance enlisted as a Whiskeynaut in 1999, adding soulful flute and whistle melodies as well as vocals. In addition to playing in Whiskey, Cara also sings and plays flute in the group Blue Dahlia. Whiskey Before Breakfast mostly performs traditional dance music and songs of the Celtic nations, including Ireland, Scotland, Cape Breton, and Galicia, but can be caught performing the occasional bambuco.
