After attending Tennessee State College and Berklee, Minger spent ten years with Count Basie's Orchestra (1970-1980) as a featured soloist. Minger settled in Miami in the early '80s and spent his time freelancing in the area. He has led superior quartet sessions for Spinnster (1983), later reissued on Concord (1992).
