by Jason AnkenyCertainly one of the few bands named in honor of a member whose duties included little more than dancing, singing occasional backup vocals and making sound effects, Isaac Green and the Skalars were among the leaders of the St. Louis ska-revival scene of the 1990s. Founded circa 1992 by Green, guitarist Ethan D'Ercole and bassist Will Horton, after a series of roster changes the group later grew to also include vocalist/saxophonist Jessica Butler, trombonist Evan Shaw, Farfisa player Jason Brody and drummer Dave Sharma. After debuting in 1995 with a seven-inch titled "Junbok Paranoia," in 1996 they issued their debut LP, Skoolin' with the Skalars. Green soon retired from performing, although he continued to manage the band; in his absence, they continued on as simply the Skalars.
