Damien Rice生于1973年12月7日，男， 爱尔兰歌手。
绘画与写歌是他青年时期的兴趣，也因此让他有了组团的念头，在"O"的专辑内页有些插画便是 Damien Rice 自己的作品。在 1997 年他组了一个名为 Juniper 的团，前后发行了三张 EP，"The World Is Dead" 和 "Weathermen" 这两首单曲也成为电台热门歌曲，但因为合约问题无法录制完整的专辑，于是在 99 年 Damien Rice 离开乐团前往 Tuscany，并从此在欧洲流浪了一年，之后又回到了都柏林，想办法筹钱录了一张 Demo，寄给了制作人兼电影配乐家的 David Arnold。

从U2主唱Bono嘴里说出来的话，一般会有很多人买帐。在前不久U2的一次纽约演唱会上，Bono向在场的所有人这样形容当晚的嘉宾Damien Rice：“你将要听到的Damien Rice就如同60年代初期的Bob Dylan，或是70年代初的Cat Stevens和James Taylor，以及另外一些非常出色的歌者。他拥有那种足以平息一场暴风雨的淡然魅力。他真是个非凡的天才！我几乎无法相信世界上竟然真的会有这样的人存在。” 不管Bono此番话是出自几分真心，他的基本意思大多数人应该是可以认同的：Damien Rice确实是这几年来出现的一位颇为难得的歌者。3年前的首张专辑《O》不仅成功的奠定了Damien Rice新民谣唱作人的身份，而且一举为他在口碑和销量上获得了双丰收。凭借《O》，Damien Rice在那一年当仁不让的挤进了Sufjan Stevens、Sigur Ros和TV on the Radio等尖子生的行列，专辑中的几首单曲，比如“The Blower's Daughter”和“Cannonball”被日后频繁的用作电影、电视剧中的主题歌或插曲，Damien Rice一时间变得家喻户晓中外驰名。
其实，细想想Damien Rice的成功其实很简单。在他的音乐中，人们最欣赏的无非就是那份极为淡然的情感流露。用钢琴、木吉他、大提琴等最简单的乐器来陪衬,配Damien Rice娓娓诉说的唱腔。他惯用自己的音量来控制歌曲的情绪发展。这其中不存在任何一点你不知道或者听不出来的繁杂。他的嗓音会让大多数人的耳膜有舒适的按摩感，时而极近，有如他就站在你的身边只为你一人而唱；时而又极远，仿佛那歌声是随着风从远方飘来的。Rice是个唱苦情歌的(至少在《O》里是这样的)，然而决不是那种俗套的口水歌或者半死不活的调调。他的作品大多有苦甜参半的优美旋律，像民谣，但又比传统民谣高贵和隐忍一些。像Damien Rice这样的，深得时下那些听流行嫌俗听摇滚又嫌吵的小白领们的青睐。
时隔三年，Damien Rice在2007年11月发行了第二张正式专辑《9》。在标题上延续了上张《O》的极简风格，那么内容上呢？大方向上Rice选择了保险起见的重复《O》的套路——毕竟这还只是他的第二张专辑；而在细节上他为我们带来了不小的惊喜。从一个有能力出唱片的人的角度来说，他一定会希望能在每张新专辑中都做出些新意——无论这种变化是人为的还是水到渠成的。尤其像Damien Rice这么一个新贵唱作人，首专就使自己名声鹊起，在此之后的第二张确实需要谨慎斟酌。
《9》中Damien Rice依旧启用了在首专《O》中起到极大添彩作用的女声Lisa Hannigan和大提琴手Vyvienne Long。专辑同名歌曲“9 Crimes”在第一时间就深深的将听者沦陷了：极富Damien Rice苦情风味的钢琴旋律，先引出的是Hannigan气若游丝的悲戚嗓音，然后第2段才响起Rice那隐忍而磁性的声音。两个人的声音彼此缠绕的上升，弦乐将整首歌推向高潮。旋律美得一塌糊涂，甚至要好过《O》中任何一首知名单曲；在此之后的“The Animals Were Gone”明显比前一首平淡了太多，落差感让人觉得这不过是一首念白式的乡村民谣，其中的爱意倒颇显甜蜜；“Elephant”是首典型Damien Rice结构作品，发展过程呈开口向下的抛物线状：开始时人声和吉他都是生怕让人听见的状态，然后曲调逐渐爬升人声和吉他也逐渐放开手脚，之后大气的鼓和电吉他带来高潮，最后一切又回复到开始时悄悄的状态；第4首“Rootless Tree”一定会让很多人大跌眼镜，因为它第一次让人们见识到了貌似过于儒弱的Damien Rice也是会发飙的。以一段甜美的吉他solo开始，你完全不会猜到后面会发生什么。Chorus时Rice伴着给劲的电吉他，瞬间变了一个人似的狠狠的不断重复着“Fuck U Fuck U”，一扫他平时留给人们那种只会自己拧巴不会对外发泄的“苦情男人”印象；第6首“Coconut Skins”也采用了Damien Rice作品中鲜有的明快节奏，带来了几分美国西部乡村摇滚的味道，他大大咧咧的甩着嗓子“La~La~La~”，就像牛仔一样酷；之后的“Me, My Yoke and I”是整张专辑中Rice转型最为成功的一首歌，一上来便直接是闷骚的电吉他，Rice越唱调越高，最后逐渐变成摇滚式的嘶叫，高潮部分的感觉十分像早期的PJ Harvey，粗砺的爆发力一定会将大部分“大米迷”击昏，不失为是Damien Rice至今最摇滚的一支作品；High曲过后，迅速转回常规Damien Rice 频道的“Grey Room”显得有些平庸；而在第9首“Accidental Babies”中，伴着深邃忧郁的钢琴旋律，我们再次看到了那个让人心碎到无以复加的男人。在演绎此类拿手曲目时，Rice似乎比《O》时更为游刃有余了。专辑的收场曲“Sleep Don’t Weep”貌似有点儿充数的嫌疑，虽然同样很柔很美，但这种柔美有点让人想睡觉。
从《9》中我们看到，Damien Rice是个可以让人有盼头的唱作人。尽管那几首几乎毫无新意可言的充数作品阻止了《9》彻底成为一张具有大胆创新意味的专辑，然而可以到达这个尺度，达到这种效果，Damien Rice这次已经成功了。不管是苦情的还是摇滚的，他慷慨的与我们分享了更多的可能性。Damien Rice从《O》开始，这张《9》会让他走的更好。
这张专辑的成功，除了 Damien Rice 充满真挚的歌声外，女声歌者 lisa hannigan 与大提琴手 vyvienne long 也功不可没，lisa 的歌声非常地动听，在专辑里时而主唱时而合音，与 Damien Rice 搭配地极佳，也让整张专辑听来更为完整而动人。而 vyvienne 每一下都好像直接拉在心房上的大提琴，更是完全衬托出这两位歌者那直接而真诚的歌声。
Damien Rice声音的渲染力，甚至可以将歌曲的情绪化为实质，然后直接传到听者的心上，他对乐器的感觉和协调性也非常出色, 可能是他小时候学过画的缘故，除了专辑封面和内页的插图出自他手之外，在他的吟唱之下,那些背景音乐仿佛组成了一幅异常美丽的图画，这一点在第六首《Amie》中表现到了极致.当然专辑中的《Cheers Darling》《The Blower"s Daughter》《 Cold Water 》《Volcano》等其他歌曲，不夸张的讲，都是让人一听就疯狂为之吸引的养耳歌曲，特别一提的是《The Blower"s Daughter》《 Cold Water》被美国电影《CLOSER》（中文译名《偷心》）收录为其片头结尾插曲，对于《The Blower"s Daughter》来说，之前已被美国热映电视剧《THE L WORD》第一季结尾处作为整季SHOW的终曲，可见是首多么打动人心的作品了。此外，《Delicate》亦被热门美剧《LOST》season1 收录为其中一首插曲。
另外，Damien Rice出了一张叫《besides》的专辑，收录了几首现场版的歌曲和几首单曲。

Damien Rice (born 7 December 1973) is an Irish singer-songwriter, musician and record producer who plays piano, guitar, percussion and clarinet.
Rice began his musical career as a member of the 1990s rock group Juniper, which were signed to Polygram Records in 1997. The band enjoyed moderate success with a couple of single releases, but a projected album foundered because of record company politics. After leaving the band he worked as a farmer in Tuscany and busked throughout Europe before returning to Ireland in 2001 and beginning a solo musical career. The rest of the band went on to become Bell X1
In 2002 his debut album O reached No. 8 on the UK albums chart, won the Shortlist Music Prize and generated three top-30 singles in the UK. Rice released his second album 9 in 2006 and his songs have appeared in numerous films and television episodes.
After eight years of various collaborations, Rice released his third studio album My Favourite Faded Fantasy on 31 October 2014.
In 2001, Rice's song "The Blower's Daughter" made a top 40 chart.Over the next year he continued to record his album with guitarist Mark Kelly, New York drummer Tom Osander aka Tomo, Paris pianist Jean Meunier, London producer David Arnold, County Meath vocalist Lisa Hannigan and cellist Vyvienne Long.Rice then embarked on a tour of Ireland with Hannigan, Tomo, Vyvienne, Mark, and Dublin bassist Shane Fitzsimons.
In 2002, Rice's debut album O was released in Ireland, the UK and the United States.The album peaked at No. 8 on the UK albums chart and remained on the chart for 97 weeks, selling 650,000 copies in the US. The album won the Shortlist Music Prize and the songs "Cannonball" and "Volcano" became top 30 hits in the UK.
In 2010, he contributed the song "Lonely Soldier" to the Enough Project and played at the Iceland Inspires concert held in Hljómskálagarðurinn near Reykjavík centrum. Rice recorded a cover of the Juniper track, "Crosseyed Bear" for the compilation, Help: A Day in the Life. Rice's albums are published under his record label Heffa (originally named DRM) in Ireland and Vector Records in North America. Records released in the UK, Europe and other countries are published by 14th Floor Records via Warner Music.In spring 2011, Rice featured on the debut album by French actress and singer Melanie Laurent. He appears on two tracks on her debut album En t'attendant while collaborating on a total of five tracks which feature on the album.In May 2013, Rice told the audience at the South Korea Seoul Jazz Festival 2013 that he is working on a new album.
On 4 September 2014, Rice's official Twitter account announced his third album My Favourite Faded Fantasy, due to 31 October. On the Damien Rice official website the date given for the official release was 3 November 2014.The album, My Favourite Faded Fantasy featuring the first single "I Don't Want To Change You" was released worldwide 10 November 2014 to critical acclaim from NPR’s Robin Hilton stating "The upcoming Damien Rice album is incredible..." and the London Evening Standard said "Damien Rice…is returning with one of the albums of the year."
In May 2016,he came to Shanghai to perform the concert.
