by MacKenzie WilsonQueens, NY, native Chip Love is the man behind the alternative rock outfit Hesher. Molding threads of old-school hip-hop, funkadelic soul, and punk-rawk, Hesher is a force not to be reckoned with when it comes to checking rhymes. His sour-rap growl is friendly to the likes of Run DMC and Everlast, but with a childlike humor. The power and passion behind performing allowed Hesher to realize early on that music was his calling, detesting his day job of stuffing tubes with toothpaste. He landed a spot as spliff coordinator for Bad Brains, soon representing in rap fusion bands such as Shining Path and Roguish Armament. He opened Woodstock 94, and his musical mayhem rounded out 500 shows throughout the Midwest over a two-year period. Such die-hard commitment led Hesher to release his self-titled debut on Warner Brothers in fall 2000.
