艺人介绍

by Alex HendersonMark Riva is a veteran club DJ, mixmaster and producer who has been involved with dance/club music since the early ‘80s. Along the way, Riva has tended to focus on the softer, more melodic side of club music (as opposed to the more harsh and abrasive forms of underground rave music). Riva is known for spinning and mixing house music in dance clubs; he is also known for his appreciation of ambient, chillout, downtempo, trip-hop and acid jazz (which isn't jazz per se but rather, high-tech dance music with jazz overtones). Another thing Riva is known for is world/electronica fusion--specifically, mixing club music with Afro-Cuban, Brazilian and Caribbean elements. Riva calls this approach "sungrooves" (in other words, grooves that mindful of the sunny, warm, tropical climates one finds in the Caribbean and South America).Riva's roots are ‘70s disco and disco-soul; Riva, who started spinning records in dance clubs in 1982, is a product of the era that gave us people like Chic, Donna Summer, Loleatta Holloway, Gloria Gaynor, the Crown Heights Affair and KC & the Sunshine Band. But as much as Riva obviously loves that era, he isn't stuck in the ‘70s--not at all. As the ‘80s progressed, he followed the house scene closely and was well aware of the accomplishments of Marshall Jefferson, Frankie Knuckles, Ten City, Adeva, Black Box, Xaviera Gold, Inner City and others. He was especially fond of deep house, a form of house music that is quite mindful of late ‘70s disco-soul; deep house is very much an extension of ‘70s artists like Thelma Houston, Linda Clifford, the Trammps and Double Exposure. And Riva continued to change with the times in the ‘90s, spinning everything from deep house to acid jazz, ambient, chillout, downtempo, trip-hop and world/electronica fusion. In 2003, Kriztal Entertainment released Mark Riva Presents: Sungrooves, a non-stop 78-minute dance mix that found him embracing the club-oriented sounds of John Beltran, Afro-Mystik, Russ Gabriel, P'taah, Wagon Cookin' and François K., among others. The lush yet rhythmic Sungrooves underscored Riva's interest in the softer side of electronica, and the title referred to his desire to combine high-tech club music with Caribbean and Latin elements.
