by Jason NickeySweden's Holy River Family Band began as a side project of Spacious Mind's keyboard player Jens Unosson, enlisted the help of guitarist Arne Jonasson and flautist/percussionist Mathias Barder. The trio released their debut on the Wild Places label, 1996's all-instrumental Haida Deities. Incorporating synthesizers and traditional world music instruments such as the oud, tablas, and hurdy gurdy, Haida Deities creates a loose, floating psychedelic vibe. Welcome to Riverhouse, the 1998 follow-up, also released on Wild Places, was a more focused and song-oriented offering, featuring vocals and bearing a closer resemblance to the latter Spacious Mind releases.
