by Joslyn LayneAccomplished drummer and musical experimenter Gunter Muller has played an electronically modified kit since 1981, when he rigged it to allow for on-the-spot modulating of drum sounds using a mobile pick-up and adapted microphone system. Born in Munchen, Germany, in 1954, Muller chose to live in Switzerland for over 30 years. He has released albums -- first on the Swiss label Unit, then on his own label For4Ears -- since the mid-'80s, and has collaborated with an impressive list of avant-garde musicians such as Joelle Leandre, Christian Marclay, Otomo Yoshihide, and Jim O'Rourke.
