Born Robert De Leon Sanchez in Dominican Republic, rap/tropical artist Papi Sanchez made inroads into music at an early age, spinning other people's records as a DJ and music director at various radio stations before beginning to make his own. Those gigs helped him hit the ground running at the time of his first release, 2003's Yeah Baby!, which became a surprise hit after the single "Enamorame" skyrocketed all the way to number three on Billboard's Latin Tropical Airplay chart. Thanks in part to its international distribution by Sony, the song scored Sanchez a slew of nominations and awards, as well as impressive sales and airplay in France, Russia, Belgium, and other European countries. Follow-up singles such as "Dilema," "Mano Pa' Arriba," and "Hazme el Amor en La Playa" would hit the charts in subsequent years, albeit not with the same impetus as "Enamorame." ~ Andree Farias
