Biography
by Johnny Loftus
Ronee Blakley was a folky singer/songwriter who found critical acclaim with her self-titled 1972 debut. With the praise of such luminaries as Bob Dylan, Blakley was cast in the 1975 Robert Altman film Nashville as Barbara Jean, a victimized and ultimately doomed singer. While a follow-up LP that same year was generally strong, it went nowhere and Blakley chose to concentrate on acting. She appeared in numerous films throughout the 1970s and 80s, including the original Nightmare on Elm Street. In 1985, she wrote, directed, and appeared in a psuedo docu-drama entitled I Played It for You. She was also briefly married to German filmmaker Wim Wenders. Both of her albums were released on CD in 2006.
