by Stephen HowellVocalist/guitarist Edward Anderson and drummer Brian Goff, natives of Bloomington, IL, formed Brother Jed when they were students at Illinois State University in 1995. Keyboardist Steve Guyer was added to the band's lineup a year later, followed by the addition of bassist Joe Kennedy in 1997. Together, the quartet recorded two self-released efforts, 1996's Brother Jed and 1997's Plush Velvet City. The two albums caught the attention of Knot Known Records president Chris Richardson who signed the band in 1998 and released their third album, Days Turn to Months, in the summer of 1999. The release displayed the band's diverse combination of funk, jazz, country and rock. Since that time, Guyer has parted ways with the band.
