A prolific composer and songwriter whose work has been commissioned by everyone from ballet companies to Merce Cunningham to the Kronos Quartet, John King has been a member of many bands as well, including Electric World, among others. In 2006 King released All Steel, three previously commissioned string quartets, on Tzadik Records.
