Although Dukes has sung gospel and R&B for years, blues remains her true love (her vocal style has often been compared to that of blues great Magic Sam), resulting in the formation of Mary Dukes & the 32-20 Band. September 2001 saw the release of the group's debut recording, Introducing the Divine Ms. Mary, which included a special guest appearance by South Side Slim, as well as organist Deacon Jones (who has played in the past with John Lee Hooker and Freddie King).
