Mass 187身为一支中西部组合，签约了南部厂牌，他们所做的音乐却是彻彻底底的G-Funk风格，1996年，团队发行了首张专辑——Real Trues Paying Dues.这张专辑的唯一主打“Gangsta Strut”是一首百听不厌的匪帮圣歌，采样了早期节奏布鲁斯大师Gil Scott-Heron的“Angel Dust”，这首歌与以往只是宣扬自己所谓“匪帮背景”，但是“只知道贼吃肉，不知道贼挨打”的“伪Gangsta”形成了鲜明的对比，Mass 187在这首歌中以客观的角度对其匪帮生涯进行了更深一层的叙述和反思，这也引起了“Payday”唱片公司的注意——一个以主要发行如Jeru The Damaja，Showbiz & A.G.等东部Hardcore Rapper单曲闻名的音乐厂牌，最终，Payday赢得了与Short Stop Records共同发行这张单曲的机会。
可惜的是，1996年正处于Hip-Hop界百家争鸣局面最为激烈的年代，Real Trues Paying Dues像石沉大海一样被淹没，变成了至今为止最被人忽视的经典Hip-Hop专辑之一，1997年，Mass 187推出了他们第二张正式专辑Krooked City，虽然这张唱片与Real Trues Paying Dues同样出色，但毕竟还是因为种种原因再一次石沉大海，时隔三年后，团体又带着One Eighty Seven Thugs于2000年付出，但是，这早已经不是他们所认识的那个时代了。

Mass 187 began promisingly enough with the 1996 hit single "Gangsta Strut" yet never bettered this initial success, quickly being overshadowed by countless other Texas-based rappers following their initial lead. The group debuted in 1996 with Real Trues Paying Dues, which made them one of the first Texas rap acts to approach national impact. Even so, Mass 187 never did attain national impact and instead fell into obscurity for a while, resurfacing years later in 2000 with One Eighty Seven Thugs.
