Roving Canadian troubadour Jake Fairley aka Fairmont has built up a loyal worldwide following throughout the course of his eleven year long musical career. In 2005 he released ‘Gazebo’ a club monster that sold 20,000 copies, had steady national radio play in many countries and solidified Fairley as a key figure in the world of electronic music. Prier to this he had several releases under various pseudonyms on top-notch dance-floor imprints such as Traum, Kompakt, Sender and Dumb-Unit.
This was followed in 2007 by Jake's warm and fuzzy 'Coloured In Memory' Fairmont album for James Holden's Border Community label. His trademark driving analogue machine-funk was fused with hypnotic vocals and woozy interludes to put his own personalized spin on the danceable melodic electronics concept. The album not only brought a new level of critical acclaim including serious love from Pitchfork, but also ensured that Fairley would start spending even more time on the road.
In November 2012, My Favorite Robot Records released the latest Fairmont album ‘Automaton’ a vocal-driven techno tour de force that ignored any lines between indie and dance music. Bringing in a disparate mix of influences, from all over the electronic universe, ‘Automaton’ was a dark and druggy journey into the mind of this ever-evolving artist. 'Automaton' was again acclaimed by press and fans alike and also gave birth to a new incarnation of the Fairmont live show, highlighting Fairmont's unique ability to perform what is simultaneously a rocking stage show and a killer dance-floor set. His ever-expanding live arsenal which now includes three analogue synthesizers, two drum machines, his trusty sampler and a slew of other toys results in something physical, intense and thoroughly charming - and not a laptop in sight!
Since 'Automaton' Fairmont has had what can only be described as a relentless release schedule. In May 2013 he released the massive genre-bending single 'Poble Sec' on Beachcoma, the label he runs with his friends Sid Le Rock and Metope. This was followed by the melancholic acid-opus 'Lie To Me EP' on My Favorite Robot Records. Then, most recently he unearthed his propulsive 12- inch &Dysnomia& on Areal Records, which like 'Poble Sec' was recorded almost entirely live-to-tape. These three EPs came amongst a flurry of over a dozen remixes for artists such as Hot Since 82, Henry Saiz, Chloe, Jori Hulkkonen, Danton Eeprom, Avatism and Abstraxion. Phew!
