by Craig HarrisInspired by the roots reggae and dub masters of Jamaica, the Dub Funk Association brings together the talents of a varied group of funk, dub, reggae and hip-hop producers. With members hailing from England, the Netherlands and Australia, the collective music consortium continues to explore the fusion of a diverse range of music. According to the collective's leader, Kelvin Richards, "We take hip-hop breaks, trance melodies, jazz phrasing and reggae sonics and attitude and we make dub."

The son of immigrants from the Dominican Republic, Richards launced the Dub Funk Association, in 1991, as an attempt to duplicate the sound systems' blend of reggae and funk. Working with Tanty Records, the collective has produced three dance-inspiring albums, Raise The Dub in 1993, Spirits Under Pressure in 1996 and Sounds Of The Heavyweight in 1999, and a series of EPs. Moving to the T.P. Records label, they released their fourth album, The Pendulum Version in late-1999.
