Mainstream, radio-ready alterna-rockers straddling the line between punk and emo, Minneapolis quartet A Verse Unsung first came together when its members were still in high school. A Verse Unsung began when classmates Jake Scherer and Dan Garland began writing songs together in 2005. With Scherer on lead vocals and adding bassist Kenny Fritze and drummer Aaron Gates, the young band started playing local gigs in early 2006. Quickly developing a local buzz in the Twin Cities area, A Verse Unsung caught the attention of noted producer Steve Hodge, a protégé of '80s hitmakers Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis who had won a Grammy in 2001 for his work with Janet Jackson. The band's debut EP, Autumn, was released in the summer of 2007 by the Minneapolis indie Somnio Records, followed shortly thereafter by their full-length debut, Sleeping Tigers.
