by Drago BonacichPanamanian-born Ricardo and Alberto Gaitan became involved in popular music while attending the local conservatory, having their first performing experience when they formed a tropical act called Impakto. Business administration graduate Ricardo Gaitan and his brother Alberto Gaitan, who earned a law and political science degree, debuted as a duo with the release of Entrégate in 1997. The two won an award for Best Local Artist that same year. After arranging and producing for Marc Anthony, Ricky Martin, and Gloria Estefan, among other artists, Ricardo y Alberto returned in 2001 with a self-titled album which featured the hit single "Mi Amor No Es Un Favor."
