by Craig HarrisThe eldest child of Donald and Christina Stewart of the influential Scottish folksinging Stewart Family, Jane Turriff is one of Scotland's leading traditional singers. Accompanying herself on accordion and melodeon, Turriff gives voice to a repertoire that includes more than 100 traditional tunes, border ballads, and folk songs from the Northeastern Scottish tradition, as well as unique renditions of country songs by Jimmie Rodgers. First recorded by folklorist Hamish Henderson for the School of Scottish Studies in 1955, Tulloch was praised by Folk Roots for her "wonderful voice and totally accessible style." After being featured on numerous compilations, Tulloch released her debut album, Singin' Is Ma Life, a collection of tunes recorded at festivals, folk clubs, and her home in Mintlow in 1996.
